Mycorrhizal seedlings

Everything you need to know about the creation of cultivated truffle plantations.

ABOUT US

Thracian Truffles Plants is part of Agroles Product OOD, a company engaged in the purchase, processing, and sale of mushrooms and truffles.
The company is certified according to EN ISO 9001:2015
The last decades have seen a dramatic decline in truffle production, but an increased demand worldwide at the same time. That has required the application of innovative methods, such as controlled cultivation of truffle plants.
Aiming at promoting cultivated truffle plantations in Bulgaria, a natural step in the company development is the supply of mycorrhizal seedlings.
To date 70% of the production in Europe comes from such plants.
A large part of these are produced by Robin Pépinières.
Thracian Truffles Plants has been the official general representative of Robin Pépinières for Bulgaria since 2017.

MYCORRHIZAL SEEDLINGS

The truffle seedlings of Robin Pépinières are high-quality plants produced in nurseries using state-of-the-art technology in accordance with ISO 9001 standard and licensed by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA).

The plants are shipped following individual mycorrhization control, labeled, numbered and graded, and they meet the expectations of modern truffle culture perfectly.

The thoroughness of such checks allows us to guarantee our customers that each seedling has a high level of mycorrhization.

We offer the following types:

QUERCUS ilex

QUERCUS coccifera

QUERCUS pubescens

QUERCUS robur

Quercus cerris

CARPINUS betulus

OSTRYA carpinifolia

CHOICE

Thracian Truffles Plants will advise you on the selection of the most suitable trees for your land. We will explain the methodology of soil preparation and the method of planting the young trees, providing you with the opportunity of performing a complete physical and chemical soil analysis in an internationally recognized certified laboratory, TEYSSIER, Bordeaux, France.
Nowadays it is very difficult to select truffle plants, as there are often few or no mycorrhizal plants available on the market. For that reason we have chosen to work with certified truffle plants only, contrary to the logic of large-scale distribution, which favors advertising and marketing strategies despite the quality and significant production results. Our work is focused on the quality of our plants rather than the sale of large quantities.
If you have decided to create a truffle plantation, please feel free to contact us without any obligation, and we will provide you with all useful ideas for starting your business.

STEPS

If you have decided to start a truffle plantation, there are several very important things to consider

01

SELECTION OF A SUITABLE PIECE OF LAND

Truffle cultivation does not require high-quality land; truffles can be grown on pastures, vineyards and/or meadows. Uncultivated and desolate rocky terrains are also an excellent choice for establishing truffle plantations.

02

SOIL ANALYSIS

Preliminary soil analysis is of paramount importance for truffle cultivation. Soil samples are sent to our partner laboratory, TEYSSIER, Bordeaux, France, specialized in soil analysis, where the samples undergo a series of tests.

Soil analyses can also be carried out by a laboratory chosen by the customer.

However, soil analyses are essential.

03

THE RIGHT SELECTION

Based on the results of the performed analysis, we can choose the most suitable type of truffle and seedling for your land.

04

SOIL PREPARATION

Once the necessary information have been gathered, we can proceed with the land preparation, and our team will advise and guide you throughout the entire process.

It would be better the land to be plowed and harrowed in advance, but if that is not possible for any reason, it would be good to prepare a place with a radius of one meter where the seedling will be planted.

FORECAST

Expected profit after the 5th – 6th year.

If you have a piece of land with an area of 1 decare, you will need 50-80 mycorrhizal seedlings with (Tuber Aestivum) per decare. The price for the planting material is 1,600 – 2,200 BGN/decare.

The average annual yield from one tree is up to 2 kg/decare.

Hence, you will get 50-100 kg from one decare.

At an average seasonal price of 60-70 BGN/kg, the profit will be 3,000 – 7,000 BGN/decare per year. That is something that cannot be achieved using traditional crops.

In conclusion, we can say that the creation a truffle plantation is a very promising business.

SUBSTRATE
enriched with truffle spores
generating and ehnancing the mycorhiza

If you have oak, hazel, hornbeam, pine, or tilia trees, our substrate with truffle spores is the perfect solution to breathe new life into your plants and grow truffles in your own backyard.

This stimulant is a natural biological product, composed only of natural substances and a controlled amount of spores from ripe and healthy truffles (Tuber Aestivum) without larvae only, which promote the mycorrhiza activation.

It is designed especially to stimulate the mycelium and mycorrhiza in the truffle tree roots, facilitating the accelerated formation of fruiting truffle bodies and the prevention of unwanted fungi spreading, and the significantly increased yield by dispersing the spores.

Technical details: 1 liter of product containing: approximately 5 grams of black truffle spores (between 100,000 and 200,000 spores) and organic substances such as peat, perlite, vermiculite, etc.

Use

For trees suitable for mycorrhiza, it is good to use the Spanish trap technique. Make a hole about 25 cm in diameter and up to 30 cm deep at a distance of 30-50 cm from the tree trunk depending on its age.

For a 3-year-old tree: 30 cm. For a 4-year-old tree: 40 cm. For a 5-year-old tree: 50 cm, and so on. Make 4 to 6 holes depending on the tree size and fill them with a mixture of 50% soil extracted from the hole and 50% organic substrate.

Put 2 or 3 handfuls of the said mixture in each hole, then cover with the remaining soil.

Depending on the region and whether the weather is hot, it is advisable to water. Apply the technique every year, slightly increasing the distance from the tree trunk and changing the position.

For young trees up to two years old, sprinkle this mixture around the tree and let it sink into the ground, digging the soil to a depth of no more than 10 cm along with generous watering.

This technique can also be used on trees that already have truffles, and it will significantly help for the development of more mycorrhiza and increased yield at the same time.

Repeat this technique every year from the end of the winter to the beginning of the spring.

In both cases, the results are surprisingly good.
